- Are a member of the family Sciaenidae (jewfishes, drums, croakers, or hardheads)
- Can grow to 1.5m in length and 40kg in weight
- Found in Australia’s Tropical waters from WA to QLD
- Related to and not to be mistaken for Mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus) and Silver Jewfish (Nibea soldado)
- Frequents coastal waters and estuarine environments over muddy and reef bottoms
- Make a croaking noise when caught
- Have enlarged otoliths referred to as ‘jewels’
