- Is a member of the family Sillaginidae (whitings and sand-smelts)
- Can grow to 30cm in length
- Distinguished by a dark blotch at base of pectoral fin and a series of brown, narrow, diagonal bars between the dorsal fin and midlateral line
- Often confused with Southern School Whiting (Sillago bassensis)
- Frequents sand and weed substrates in shallow coastal waters
- Found only in WA
- Target with small hooks and small pieces of squid, prawn or red meat
- Good eating
