Fillet Spanish Mackerel

Description

In this video you will see land-based fishing expert Paul Swart catch a 10kg Spanish mackerel (aka narrow-barred mackerel) from the rocks, then fillet the same fish with effortless ease.

The method demonstrated in this video differs slightly from others in our ‘How To Fillet’ series. The Spanish mackerel is a long, large-growing species and requires a different approach than smaller stocky species such as snapper. This same method can also be applied to other large pelagic species such as wahoo, cobia, etc.

If you’ve never filleted a Spanish mackerel, follow the steps you see here, pause it if you have to, and with a bit of luck you too will be left with a couple of white meaty fillets just like this.
