Polycraft Tuff Tender Winner 3

Congratulations Ben Fletcher from Trigg WA, the winner of our third Polycraft Tuff Tender boat giveaway. Ben’s name was drawn from over 691 fishing tournament entries between July and October 2016. Ben has been rewarded for his luck with a brand new Polycraft 3.0m Tuff Tender boat worth $1799.

PolyCraft-Tuff-Tender-Winner-for-website

Ben’s winning fish was his 64cm mackerel submitted in October 2016, also a WA State Tournament prize-winning fish for the month. Just like the previous two Tuff Tender winning fish, this was the only fish Ben submitted during the 4 month competition window from July to October so he definitely had luck on his side!

Ben has been a tournament member for years and it’s great to see him getting amongst it. We are sure he’s going to love his new boat to cruise the waters of Perth and no doubt he’ll be landing some nice fish in it very soon.

Once again, congratulations to Ben on his win. We would like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to all of our members that competed by submitting tournament entries during the campaign. We look forward to drawing the next Tuff Tender in early March for the November-February competition period. For more information on how to enter click here.

Cooper was very excited to hear about his win. When we contacted him he had just got home from winning his indoor cricket grand final and could not believe his luck. He kept asking “is this real, is this real”. Cooper said that once he receives his reel in the mail he will send us a photo with it. Cooper is a mad keen fisho with plenty of gear but this new Dogfight is by far the best of the lot. Lately he has been catching a few school jew and can’t wait to put the new reel to use on some bigger fish.

Once again, congratulations to Cooper on his win. We would like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you and welcome to all new members that joined our online fishing community during the campaign. NEW Pro Series lure & fly tournament – starts 1st March

We’re excited to announce that our NEW Pro Series Lure and Fly monthly fishing tournament starts 1st March 2016. The Pro Series tournament is designed to give lure and fly anglers a platform to compete on a level playing field against other like-minded fishos.

This new monthly tournament is lure and fly only and will be the first of it’s kind in Australia and quite possibly the world. To be 100% sure the fish was caught on lure or fly, additional to normal tournament procedure contestants will be required to submit a video as proof of their catch. Selected entries will be shared on social media and the winners will be featured in a monthly winners video!

Prizes are minimum $500 value for the longest of each species and we’re kicking it off with at least 6 species.

The March Species | Sponsor | Prize list is:

Barramundi | Abu Garcia & Berkley | Abu Revo reel + Berkley braid & plastics ($500 value).
Bass | Okuma & Storm | $500 prize pack
Bream | Dream Kayaks | Dream Catcher 4 ($599 value)

Pro Series Rules/Procedure

Additional to current tournament rules contestants are required to provide a link to their video in Dropbox*, YouTube, Vimeo or similar as proof of their catch. *We recommend using Dropbox.

Video footage must be one continuous clip that identifies the competitor and captures the cast right through to measuring the fish on a brag mat with competitors monthly tournament code displayed.

  • When submitting fish via the ‘Submit Catch’ page contestants simply enter the fish’s length, select the species from the Pro Series drop box and attach a link to their video. Rather than submitting photos at the bottom of page contestants may submit a screenshot of their fish on the brag mat (with code) and a screenshot of them fighting or holding the fish.
  • Fishing/filming must be conducted during daylight hours between first and last light.
  • Lure and Fly fishing only. Lures must be actively cast and retrieved. No setting rods in holders and no trolling.
  • Pro Series winners can only win 1 prize per fish. If for example your Bream wins both the Pro Series and National tournaments then your National prize will be awarded to the National runner up.

It all kicks off on 12am 1st March so start prepping your video cameras and get some practice in before it starts. You can mount your video camera on your boat, tripod, head, chest or anywhere else that we can see you competing, just remember that it needs to be easily accessible for filming you measuring your catch.

There are many brands such as GoPro that make ideal video cameras around the $300 mark and you can pick them up even cheaper second hand. We understand people may be new to using these devices so here are some tips:

  • Rather than filming an entire session in one clip, record every cast or every few casts separately by pressing stop/record. This way you can filter through the rubbish clips much easier when you get home and your file sizes will be much more manageable.
  • Get yourself a battery pack to effectively double your recording time.
  • Clear your SD card before heading out.
  • Carry a spare battery and or battery pack.
  • Consider having an extra video camera as backup or to capture a different angle.
  • Rather than emailing us the clip/footage, upload it to DropBox, YouTube or Vimeo and attach the link in the appropriate field on the ‘Submit Catch’ page.

Once you get the hang of it you’ll find it is very easy but if you get stuck feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Get Fishing Proudly Supporting Next Gen Fishing Team

Western Angler Next Gen Fishing Team

We are proud to announce that Get Fishing is now supporting the Western Angler Next Gen Fishing team. The team is a group of 10 hand-picked junior anglers who have been specially selected to form an exciting team to take WA fishing to a whole new generation of junior anglers. The team is sponsored by Getaway Outdoors, Halco Tackle, Bluewater Tackle, Compleat Angler and Camping World Nedlands, Seasport Charters Kalbarri and Red FM.

Firstly we would like to say congratulations to all 10 members on being selected as part of the Team. It’s obvious you are passionate about your fishing and I’m sure the program will help you develop your skills as an angler.

Get Fishing will be helping out by offering each member 12 months free tournament membership (valued at $69) to compete in our State and National fishing tournaments. Competing in the tournaments will give you drive to fish more often. It will encourage you to perfect your rigs and technique so that you can land those prize-winning fish. By submitting fish and getting your name on the leaderboards (and hopefully winning) it will give you more exposure and credibility as an angler. Winning prizes is a bonus but not everything. As long as you are trying your best it means that you are learning and developing your skills.

Midnight Abalone Bust Catches VIC Poachers

Two men will be charged on summons after they were allegedly caught taking abalone in excess of the catch limit during the closed season at Portsea on Friday August 7 2015.

Fisheries Victoria Director of Education and Enforcement Ian Parks said officers conducting a routine patrol of the ocean beach at London Bridge apprehended the men just before midnight.

A 42-year-old man from Cranbourne will be charged on summons with taking 49 abalone during the closed season, at night, and with taking undersized abalone.

Both men are also expected to be charged on summons for allegedly obstructing fisheries officers in their duties which carries a maximum penalty of $18,000 fine, 12 months’ jail or both.

There is a permanent closed season placed on the take of abalone from Central Victorian waters, except for nominated open days during the year.

Furthermore, abalone can only be taken during daylight hours, with the take of abalone between sunset and sunrise prohibited.

“Abalone poaching threatens the sustainability of the fishery and opportunities for future generations of fishers,” Mr Parks said.

“This is a good reminder that strict restrictions are in place to protect our resources and ensure they are shared among all users.”

Fishers are also reminded that restrictions on the harvest of abalone and other shellfish from the intertidal zone apply, as do bag limits.

Shellfish can only be taken in more than two metres of water to protect these vulnerable areas.

During open days, the daily bag limit per person for abalone is five, of which no more than two can be greenlip.

For more information on the recreational take of abalone, please visit www.vic.gov.au/fisheries or see a copy of the Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide.

Information of any suspected illegal fishing activity can be reported via Fisheries Victoria’s 13 FISH (133 474) offence reporting line.

Blue Groper Speared on NSW South Coast

Blue Groper Seized in Surveillance Operation

Illegal fishers hoping to fool Department of Primary Industries’ (DPI) fisheries officers got a nasty surprise when they were apprehended for illegally spearing a Blue Groper on the NSW south coast.

DPI Acting Director of Compliance, Tony Andrews, said the two men were fishing at Tura Headland, near Merimbula, late last year, under the covert surveillance of fisheries officers.

“It will be alleged that a 25 year old man from Monash in the ACT, speared the Blue Groper and then placed it on the fishing line of his companion, a 43 year old man from Gungahlin, in the ACT, who was fishing from nearby rocks,” Mr Andrews said.

“The diver did this in an attempt to legitimise the capture because Blue Groper can only be taken by a fishing line. This shows that both men were calculated, deceptive and indicated knowledge of wrong doing.

“The men were apprehended as they attempted to leave and were found to have a large Blue Groper with a spear wound, measuring 76cm long and weighing 9.1kg in their possession.

“The 25 year old was issued with a $500 Penalty Infringement Notice for spearing a groper, and the 43 year old was issued with a $500 Penalty Infringement Notice for possessing fish illegally taken.

“Fisheries officers also seized all associated diving and fishing equipment.

“Blue Groper are protected from spearfishing and have been for many years, and anyone who spears, or has in possession a speared Blue Groper, will be prosecuted and subjected to seizure of equipment and heavy penalties, including a maximum penalty of $22,000 and/or six month in prison.

“Illegal fishers should be aware that DPI fisheries officers can be anywhere, anytime and are dedicated to protecting our precious fisheries resources.”

How to Prevent Ethanol Related Damage in Petrol Engines

STA-BIL® Marine is specifically designed to prevent Ethanol related damage in petrol engines in marine environments.

Containing strong cleaning agents to remove power robbing deposits from carburetors, fuel injectors and intake valves, STA-BIL® Marine provides improved engine performance YEAR ROUND.

STA-BIL Marine protection

Most boats and marine equipment have a fuel system that vents to the atmosphere. Ethanol fuel is hygroscopic in nature which means it attracts and absorbs moisture.  Water  in the fuel tank can cause significant engine damage. STA-BIL® Marine helps removes water from fuel, protecting your engine.

High octane fuels such as 95 and 98 deteriorate in as little as 21 days. Fuel phase separation occurs in regular unleaded in as little as 30 days. By using STA-BIL® Marine at every fill up, fuel phase separation can be prevented.

It is common practice when storing your boat or water craft to drain the fuel tank. There is no dispute that it is near impossible to remove all fuel from the fuel system by draining, not to mention the difficulties involved in disposing of fuel in an environmentally safe manner. Remaining fuel can erode rubber hoses and plastic fuel lines.  A near empty fuel tank is vulnerable to rust and corrosion, leading to more problems when the tank is refilled.   STA-BIL Marine prevents fuel deterioration and stabilises fuel for 12 months, eliminating the need to drain the fuel tank.

With DOUBLE the corrosion preventer than in STA-BIL® Storage, STA-BIL® Marine provides unparalleled protection against corrosion and the formation of ‘white rust’ deposits in the harsh marine environment. The last thing you want is to be caught out on the water with fuel issues when they can be easily prevented.

STA-BIL® Marine is available from leading automotive, hardware and marine outlets.

STA-BIL products are exclusively distributed by Trico Products Pty Ltd. For further information go to www.STA-BIL.com.au or call 1300 698 742.
